Hamnet
From Academy Award® winning writer/director Chloé Zhao, HAMNET tells the powerful love story that inspired the creation of Shakespeare’s timeless masterpiece, Hamlet.
Hamnet is a story about family loss and bereavement.
Agyness lives her life as a woman, wife and mother. Living in the rural forest as a sorcerer, she embodies the spirits who have passed into “heaven”, an afterlife after their bereavement. Her natural and instinctive certainty is central to her family.
Agyness’ beliefs are essential to who she is. She leads with an insistence that death is a visitation and choice, but this become a challenge which she must overcome. She is filled with despair when she is bereaved. She and her husband (William Shakespeare) desperately search for meaning after losing her son, Hamnet. Her despair and loss threaten her personal beliefs about life, its continuity, love and loss.
Can she find herself again or will she also lose the love of her husband?
